Lady Hawks split Saturday Double Dual, Celebrate Sophomores
October 7, 2024
The SUNY Rockland Community College Lady Hawks volleyball team split their results in a hard-fought Saturday double dual, securing a 3-0 win over Kingsborough Community College while falling to Queensborogh Community College 0-3. The day also marked a special occasion as the team celebrated their sophomores, honoring Mikayla Strammiello, Desire George, and Ananda Marshall for their contributions to the program.
"Today was all about showing heart, and I couldn't be prouder of how we competed," said head coach Joan Sherman. "Splitting the day wasn't the result we hoped for, but we played some of our best volleyball yet. It was a great way to honor our sophomores, who have been incredible leaders both on and off the court."
The Hawks took control in the first match, showcasing strong teamwork and a fierce offensive attack, but the second match tested their endurance and resilience. Despite the split, the energy in the gym was electric, especially as the team celebrated the careers of Strammiello, George, and Marshall. Athletic Director Ed Bajor praised the team's effort and the significance of the sophomore night. "Our sophomores have been the backbone of this team. Mikayla, Desire, and Ananda are fantastic athletes, and it was great to see the team rally behind them. We're looking forward to seeing how this group finishes the season."
The Lady Hawks will look to build on their momentum as they head into the final stretch of the season.
